Wombarra Rock Pool is a main pool and toddlers pool below a row of tall Norfolk pines, in the quiet stretch of coast between Coalcliff and Thirroul. It's free, dates from the 1930s and is usually peaceful, since Wombarra is barely more than a handful of streets.

What it's like
The pines stand along the reserve above, the escarpment rises behind, and the pool sits low on the rock platform with the sea right in front. The main pool is good for a swim and the toddlers pool beside it is shallow and calm. With so few people around, it's the kind of place where you can float on your back and hear nothing but waves. Locals have swum here since the 1930s.
When to go
Calm mornings, ideally at mid to low tide. Cleaning dates are estimates that change with the weather and sea.
Getting there and facilities
The pool is at the end of Reef Avenue, Wombarra, just off Grand Pacific Drive and a few minutes south of the Sea Cliff Bridge. Bring what you need, as there's little in the way of shops nearby.
Good to know
There's no lifeguard on duty. The rock platform is slippery.
