What it's like
The main pool stretches 50 m along the rock shelf below the headland, with a shallow children's pool alongside, and swell breaks over the outer wall on bigger days. It started as a natural basin in the rock. After the beach opened to the public in 1912, locals and surf club members began cutting a pool by hand, and council extended it to 33 m in 1919 and 50 m in 1930. Its new name honours Isa Wye, who spent 85 years with the Dee Why Ladies Amateur Swimming Club.
When to go
Lap swimmers come early and families mid-morning. The pool closes while it refills after each scheduled clean, which takes longer in flat seas, so check the roster first.
Getting there and facilities
The pool is off Oaks Avenue at the southern end of Dee Why Beach, with accessible toilets and showers. The cafes and restaurants of The Strand are a short walk along the beachfront, and buses on Pittwater Road stop in Dee Why.
Good to know
There are no lifeguards at the pool itself. The rocks are slippery.
