Collaroy Rockpool is a 50 m, eight-lane rock pool at the southern end of Collaroy Beach with a gently sloping ramp and handrails into the water, one of the easiest Sydney ocean pools to get into. It's free, with a shallower section for toddlers and a serious lap pool for everyone else.

What it's like

Instead of a ladder, a ramp with handrails on both sides slopes into the water, so wheelchair users and anyone unsteady on their feet can walk or wheel straight in. The main pool has eight lanes over 50 m, and early-morning regulars swim them hard. A shallower section keeps small children happy. Officially opened in 1926 and enlarged into a full-size pool in 1937, it has since been restored with the ramp and new stairs.

When to go

Early mornings are for laps, and families arrive later. The cleaning roster can change at short notice with unusual weather or pool conditions, so check before you go.

Getting there and facilities

The pool is at the southern end of Collaroy Beach, with a newer amenities block nearby holding two fully accessible toilets. Buses run along Pittwater Road, and cafes are a short walk away. Beach wheelchairs can be booked for Collaroy Beach.

Good to know

No lifeguard watches the pool. The ramp gets slippery with weed, so take it slowly.
