Bellambi Rock Pool is a 50 m pool that runs along the shoreline rather than out to sea, so every lap comes with the ocean right beside you. It's free, with a toddlers pool and wide, sunny concrete steps that make a fine place to sit, plus a playground and coastal path next door.

What it's like
Swim north and the Pacific is at your shoulder the whole way. The broad steps along one side catch the sun and fill with locals drying off, while the shallow toddlers pool keeps small children busy. Built in the mid-1960s, it's one of the younger pools in the Illawarra, and it reopened in 2019 after a major refurbishment.
When to go
Calm days on a rising tide are best. Cleaning dates are estimates that shift with the sea and weather.
Getting there and facilities
The pool is off Robert Cram Drive, Bellambi, beside a children's playground and the shared coastal pathway. Facilities are basic: an outdoor cold shower and a picnic shelter.
Good to know
The pool is unpatrolled. Bluebottles sometimes wash in on summer days.
