What it's like
From the water you can look north and south along a long run of Illawarra coastline, with the escarpment behind. The main pool runs just over Olympic length, so it attracts lap swimmers, and the shallow toddlers pool beside it is sheltered for small children. Volunteers from the community built it in the 1960s, and a plaque dedicates it to local school students who served in the armed forces in the two world wars. A major upgrade closed it for six months in 2020, and it reopened that November.
When to go
Calm mornings are the best time. At high tide in a swell, waves wash over the wall. Cleaning dates are estimates that move with the weather and sea, so check before you go.
Getting there and facilities
The pool is on Towradgi Road, Towradgi, with parking nearby. There are toilets, change rooms and showers.
Good to know
No lifeguard watches the pool, though the beaches either side are patrolled in season. The rocks around the pool are slippery.
