Silver Beach Baths at Kurnell is a long, netted swimming area on the calm southern shore of Botany Bay, set between two stone groynes about 200 m apart. It's free and unpatrolled, with a cafe nearby, and long enough for a proper swim without any surf.

What it's like
Silver Beach faces north across Botany Bay, so the water is flat and the sand runs along a quiet, low-key stretch of Kurnell. The netted area between the stone walls gives you room for laps or a slow float. Planes heading in and out of Sydney Airport across the bay add an unexpected bit of theatre.
When to go
Calm summer days are best. Check Beachwatch after rain, as bay water quality drops with stormwater.
Getting there and facilities
Silver Beach is on the Kurnell peninsula, near Kamay Botany Bay National Park. There's parking close by, though it fills on holidays, and a cafe and newsagent near the baths.
Good to know
There are no lifeguards. Dogs aren't allowed on the beach or in the swimming area, and storms sometimes damage the net, closing the baths for repairs.
