Walley Weekes Pool is a small sandstone rock pool behind the North Bondi Children's Pool, cut from the foreshore by a team led by Bondi lifesaving pioneer Wally Weekes. It's free, sheltered and swimmable around high tide, then drains away with the tide.

What it's like
The pool fills with the rising tide and empties as it falls, so it changes all day and never needs cleaning. At high tide it's a protected little pocket of sea, safe from the surf a few metres away. Weekes was a founding member and the first club captain of the Bondi lifesaving club, formed in 1907, and he led the team that cut this pool as a safe place for children to learn to swim.
When to go
Around high tide on a calm day. At low tide it's empty.
Getting there and facilities
Walk to the northern end of Bondi Beach; the pool is just behind the North Bondi Children's Pool. A playground, barbecues and toilets are nearby.
Good to know
The pool is unpatrolled. The sandstone is slippery when wet.
