Aslings Beach Rock Pool is a small cliff-side pool tucked into the pink and white rocks at the end of Aslings Beach in Eden, opened in 1961 as the Eden Memorial Swimming Pool. It's free, quiet and best at low tide, a pool for floaters and explorers rather than lap swimmers.

What it's like
You could walk the whole beach without spotting it: the pool hides in the pink and white rocks at the far end. It was made by deepening a natural pool in the rock platform and opened in 1961. Sand has built up over the decades, so it is now much shallower than the original 1.3 m, more for a dip and a float than for laps. The setting is the point: open sea on one side, cliffs on the other, and very few people.
When to go
Low tide on a calm day is best, when the walk is easier and the water calmer. At high tide you may wade through ankle-deep water to get there, and in a storm swell it's best left alone. Seaweed can wash in after rough seas.
Getting there and facilities
Walk along Aslings Beach from town, then pick your way over the rocks at the end. There are no facilities at the pool. Eden is about six hours' drive south of Sydney.
Good to know
The only way in is over the rocks, so it doesn't suit anyone with limited mobility. There are no lifeguards at the pool.
