Angourie Green Pool is the smaller, quieter sibling of the Blue Pool: a deep, spring-fed quarry hole near Yamba, tinted green by the plants and shade around its walls. It's free and always open, about 100 m past the Blue Pool, and a swim for confident swimmers only.

What it's like
The Green Pool sits in a second, smaller quarry cut into the same headland, and it feels more enclosed and shadier than its neighbour. The water is deep straight away, more than 2 m from the edge, so this is a swim rather than a paddle. It usually draws fewer people than the Blue Pool, which makes it a calmer place to cool off. Both holes are left over from quarrying in the 1890s, when stone was cut here for the Clarence River breakwalls.
When to go
Mornings and weekdays are the quietest times. Blue-green algae can close it in warm weather, and signs go up on site when that happens.
Getting there and facilities
Park at the day car park at the end of The Crescent, Angourie, walk the paved path to the Blue Pool, then follow the sandy track about 100 m further. Toilets are at the car park only.
Good to know
There are no lifeguards and no shallow end. Don't jump or dive: there are rock ledges under the surface, and a teenager died after jumping here in January 2024. No dogs, fires or glass.
